The effects of Cd(Ⅱ),Cr(Ⅲ) ,Cr(Ⅵ),Cu(Ⅱ),Hg(Ⅱ),Pb(Ⅱ)and Zn(Ⅱ)on cell suspension cultures of Catharanthus roseus(C. roseus)were investigated in detail. Biomass yields of the cells in the presence of these heavy metals relatively to that of control cultures were obtained. It was indicated that heavy metals were uptaken and bioroncentrated by C. roseus. The toxicities of heavy metals in the cell culture were interrelated to their oxidation states and pH of the media.
